Bristol is successful in it's bid to be one of 12 host cities selected by England on 16 December 2009. Being a part of Englands national bid will offer the city a fantastic opportunity to be seen as one that can rival even the countrys most famous sporting cities.

Bristol is an enthralling, international destination boasting major cultural venues, a wealth of historic buildings, a new £500 million shopping and entertainment quarter and fantastic green open spaces right in the heart of the city. Bristol’s working harbour runs right through the city and is the backdrop for some of the city’s major events.

A new football stadium in the south of the city will form the centrepiece of Bristol’s bid. Beautiful open spaces offer fantastic settings for visiting fans to take part in Bristol’s special welcome. The city is well connected too, served by two motorways, an international airport with plans for expansion linking over 400 routes and excellent rail links across the UK and Europe.

Bristol has a wealth of sporting talent and a track record of holding big events. From hosting international rugby and cricket world cup matches and the successful UK School Games in 2008, to the hugely popular Bristol Half Marathon - the city is able to provide the experience and qualities needed to be a host city for 2018.
